Coming home in agendas tonight should be a reminder about novel reviews which are due May 13th.  As well, students got their recent math quiz handed back to them and they were asked to write both their overall grade, as well as an objective that they did well on, and one they still need to be working on.  Please check in with them on how they did, as well as how they prepared ahead of time.

Finally - don't forget about the yummy fundraiser for Flatbread pizzas brought to you by parent council.  Information can be found on the page sent home yesterday or on the school website.

Have a terrific weekend.

Today in Science we were creating complete circuits to light up our little light bulbs.  What great ideas on how to create these circuits and what great teamwork.

We have been reading the novel Hatchet in class - so far smart cookie reviews in the class are great for this story of survival.

We have reached up to the end of chapter 4 and students need to have both their questions ( in their booklets) and their reader response journal ( on line) completed up to chapter 4.

Reminders for this week:
-math weeklys are due this Friday
- everyone should still be reading their novel and can be filling in what they know as they go. The due date for the May novel reviews is May 13th

And if you didn't get a chance to see the tweet I sent out yesterday, take a look on the sidebar to see the little robots I was learning about while working to integrate Science, Math and Technology these last two days.

Our logging projects are completed.  A special thanks to all of my amateur photographers that helped out by taking pictures and videos.  Follow the link to check out our very own environment ministers speaking about the topic of allowing logging in National Parks.

     No mom's allowed please.
Dads, aunties, grandparents... follow this link for some confidential information.

A reminder to everyone that students should be reading their chosen novel at home in preparation for their next novel review in May. Please help your child to keep this up.  Try a reading time each night, ask them what is happening in their novel, try paired reading together...

Also a reminder that Spelling assignment #2 is due Friday morning when we complete our test - have you seen your child's ten sentences?  Do they have capitals and periods? Do they make sense?

Finally we are continuing to collect lids for our electric car wheels.  Please keep sending them in!

Monday, 18 April 2016

Happy Monday everyone. It sounds like we're going to have a beautiful week of summer like weather!

Homework that you should see coming home this week includes continued reading of a chapter book for our novel review next month, finishing our last 3D word project for art, and this week's spelling assignment due Friday (assignment #2).

Also coming up this Friday is our Earth day assembly starting at 10:30. Please come and join us to see the Earth day video staring our BES actors.

A new game link has been added on our Math section of the blog.  Prodigy is a fantasy style game that helps to practice math skills.  It even sends me emails about progress and minutes of practice completed.  Ask your child to show it to you.  We'll be trying it out today :)

I hope that everyone had a fabulous spring break!  Now that we are back, here are the highlights for this week.

Thursday:

  • Comic good copies are due to be handed in - these will be posted outside of our classroom                so be sure to stop by later next week for a look at all of these great stories!
  • Electrical safety quiz
Friday
  • Math weekly #11 is due
Additional information:
  • We now have a good supply of straws and skewers for our car building at the end of this unit but we are still looking for many more lids for our wheels.  Please keep collecting and send them in every once in awhile.
  • Early next month students will be completing another novel review.  We did one of these earlier in the year and the questions will be the same.  I have asked the students to be much more aware of their own reading ability and to pick an appropriate book level this time (there's a link to AR book finder on the LA section of this blog that gives the reading level for novels).  Please talk to your child about this and which book they will be reading to be ready for next month.
